Pink Moon is an album seemingly full of masterpieces, but “Which Will” still stands out above the competition. Containing a beautiful, lilting guitar part (which reminds the listener of Mississippi John Hurt), “Which Will” is probably the most musically accomplished song on the record, and one of the most lyrically inspired. Unlike many Nick Drake songs, the lyric is not oblique, but direct and simple – it opens with the lovely “Which will you go for/Which will you love/Which will you choose from/From the stars above”, sung in a gorgeous, self-effacing way. The melody is engaging, and sets the philosophical content of the lyrics perfectly.
