Reviews
Easily one of Tim Buckley's most eclectic compositions, "Monterey" is a combination of his neo-jazz/ avant-garde experimentation from Lorca, as well as a bizarre (for the time) funk-rock base, which eventually resurfaced on his last album, Welcome to L.A. in 1973. An essay on love's complicated emotions, the song features Buckley making full use of his awesome three-octave voice over the funky rhythms. The bizarre wailing of his voice is not unlike some of Yoko Ono's wailing vocal gymnastics from the same period. A welcome and strange addition to 2001's Morning Glory anthology.
