A slightly unusual recording and song for Tim Buckley for this period, "So Lonely" is essentially a straight, somewhat whimsical blues. The tone of the music is lighthearted and filled with an almost comedic warmth that belies Buckley's more serious experiments of late 1969. Lyrically, the litany of complaints is a standard blues fare and somewhat shaded by Buckley's barely decidable melancholy.
