Aside from Tim Buckley's slightly bizarre vocal gymnastics, "Who Could Deny You" may be one of his most overtly commercial records of his career. A cross between Burt Bacharach-inspired pop and '70s funk, this song is indeed a strange fusion, yet with the insightful arrangement and sheen, it succeeds beyond its wildest dreams. Possibly containing one of Buckley's most accessible melodic attempts, the song fit in quite well with the feel of the excessive music of the period — more accurately, the period that would follow this recording.
